Britney Spears' Musical Debut

Britney Spears' break into showbiz was Disney's New Mickey Mouse Club. Later, Britney joined Innosense, an all-girl pop group, for a short time. Both of these baby-steps were important, but what really shot Britney Spears up into the realm of stardom was her musical debut single and album, ...Baby One More Time.

Britney Spears' ...Baby One More Time, put out by the label Jive, was a spectacular hit. The single, released in October of 1998, swept the country and the world. The music was lively, Bubblegum Pop which, although not critically acclaimed, found the public an eager audience and rocketed her to stardom.

Britney Spears' music video for ...Baby One More Time played no small part in her explosion to pop star status, portraying Britney Spears singing and dancing in a bare midriff schoolgirl's uniform. This compelling image of the young and sexy Britney Spears was seared so hotly into the public's consciousness that it has since became somewhat of a trademark for her.

The ...Baby One More Time album, released a few months later in January of 1999, continued the musical momentem Britney had built up with the smash single. In fact, sales-wise it is Britney Spears' musical peak.

Britney Spears' Music - Second Album

Britney Spears' music career didn't miss a beat with her second album, Oops! ...I Did It Again, released in May 2000. The Oops! ...I Did It Again single was an especially catchy tune, and was played over the radio almost too often. The album sold tremendously well, and kept Britney Spears ontop of the teen pop music world.

Britney Spears' third album, Britney continued her winning streak. A commercial and (comparatively) critical success, it included such hits as I'm a Slave 4 U and Overprotected.

Britney Spears' Music - Fourth Album

Britney Spears' music in her fourth album, In the Zone, had evolved away from the Bubblegum Pop of ...Baby One More Time to a rougher, more adult sound in such songs as the Grammy-winning Toxic. This album was her fourth number one seller out of four, helping prove her to be a true superstar.

Britney Spears' music has stagnated for the last few years, with the only releases being, Greatest Hits: My Perogative and B in the Mix: The Remixes. There are rumors however, that a new Britney Spears studio album is just around the corner.

Britney Spears Acting

Britney Spears acting career had its beginnings on the television in the New Mickey Mouse Club at age eleven. This television program apparently had excellent talent scouts at that time, because it also included such future superstars as Justin Timberlake and Joshua Chasez (both of 'N Sync fame), Christina Aguilera (singer), Ryan Gosling (actor) and Keri Russel (actress).

Britney Spears is certainly a spectacular performer when it comes to singing and dancing, but sadly, that does not mean that she can act well. In fact, she her acting might best be described as abysmal. Still, Britney Spears has managed to make cameo appearances in such movies as Austin Powers in Goldmember and Longshot.

Following in the footsteps of singers such as Mariah Carey and Mandy Moore, Britney Spears hit the movie screens in the starring role of Crossroads. Sadly, Britney's movie performance was on at about the same level as that of Mariah Carey's in Glitter, (and much lower than Mandy Moore's performances in her many movie roles.)

Maybe her poor acting skills are related to her poor lip-syncing skills, which might explain why Britney Spears was caught lip-syncing at a recent engagement.

Luckily, with the kind of money she has, Britney Spears can probably afford acting lessons. We can only pray she takes them before stepping in front of the movie cameras again.
